Give me a week or two to go absolutely cuckoo.

So, last year I knitted EVERYTHING that I gave my family for Christmas. . .this year I thought I would be smart, start early, paint a few things.  You know. . .simple.

It didn't work out that way. . .but everyone loved what I gave them and I  was fairly happy with the results:

A tree topper for my stepmother, who is German.  She collects them.

First set of magnets:

Second set of magnets:

First set of necklaces:

Second set of Necklaces:

Three sets of keychains with matching letter openers:

A pair of traditional ornaments:

A pair of ornaments for my father.  This is me with my grandmother. . .she died this year:

A pendant for my mother-in-law.  This is HER mother. . .who also died this year:

CU of one of the long pendants:

A breast cancer ribbon ornament for my sister-in-law. . .who always runs the S.G. Komen race in Houston every year:

There were a few others that I didn't get shots of. . .next year I'm not sure what I'll do!  (BIG thanks to the gals at Nomadic Notions here in Austin. . .who wrapped and assembled all the necklaces and taught me how to black a silver chain.)

Thanks for looking, kids.

Those all look gorgeous! I especially like the pendants with the pictures. If you don't mind telling I would like to know how you did them? If you would rather not I understand. Smiley

certainly i'll tell you!

i printed the pictures on LaserTran transfer paper. . .it's a waterslide paper that allows the image to slide off of the backing and be affixed to pretty much anything (without fear of flipping the image).

i've used it on ceramic, wood, canvas, even paper.

it is supposed to be used with laser printers, but i've done all mine on inkjet without much difficulty.

it's a tad expensive, though. . .so i use it sparingly.

I was rather proud of myself this year - I crocheted scarves for some, made ornaments and stockings. Now I feel rather inferior  - your work is superb!!! A new idea for next year (need to start soon)

FIFI - i was supposed to start painting in november and didn't get started until december 15th!  no good reason to wait!

naelany - i scanned old photos into my computer, fidgeted with them in photoshop a little bit, then printed them on LaserTran paper.  i let the paper dry for thirty minutes, cut out my images, and soaked them in warm water for a minute or so. . . .the image slides off of the paper backing and looks a bit like floppy film.. . .

i put the pictures onto ornaments that i purchased from Maryland China.  i carefully pushed out any air bubbles with my fingers and let the ornaments dry.

when they were completely dry i sprayed them with a glossy finish to seal them against scratches.

i did the same thing for the pendant, adding the gold paint around the picture because the paper wasn't cut terribly straight!

the LaserTran paper scratches very easily when put on smooth surfaces. . . so i  definitely recommend sealing it with something.

Truly lbeautiful gifts. I may have to try the Lazertran, it looks like one of those products that whilst not a traditional craft, can be used to produce lovely keepsakes.
