i'm new to sewing clothing--do you make your own binding? how do you sew it around the curve of the bolero?

I bought the binding, I didn't do anything special to get it around the curve, I just...put it around the curve, thats it.

For some reason at first I thought this said "happy newcar" and I got really excited. Thought I won a new car.
