Whee! First time I check this part. I am from Lincoln too!

My LYS is Threads Too (near Wesleyan and the Walgreens on 48th and Huntington). They carry beautiful yarns not found in Jo-Ann's, Michael's etc. Knitting and other classes are offered there.

I have heard of the knitters who get together every Tuesday at the women's center and the Student Union, but do they still gather while school is not in session?

I'm in Omaha, but get up to Lincoln every once in a while -- thanks for the heads up about Rickrack, too.

I'm looking ALL OVER for someplace that carries the Denyse Schmidt line of quilting fabrics, and haven't found ANYWHERE around here that carries them in the store.  (I'm a fondler.  I need to touch them before buying them, so ordering online hasn't had the appeal that, oh, say, a good IMPULSE BUY would have. :>)

I have another thread on this board, too, but if you're in Lincoln and happen to see this on or around the second Saturday of the month -- we've got a Church of Craft group going in Omaha, and I'd be happy to point you in the direction of other crafty resources in this neck o' the woods if you come down. Smiley

(Er.  Up.  Over.  Whatever. :>)

My LYS, Threads Too, has closed. There is still a Threads store in town. But there is a difference between being able to drop by on my way from the drugstore and having to take two buses (most likely, with a rather hyperactive five-year-old) to get to my LYS.

Bummer. Now I feel guilty for all those times I ordered yarn online.

Oh no!  Threads Too closed?  Bummer!  I really like the space at Studioville.  And I love Gladys.  She rocks.  Of course, Threads in Sutter Place is much closer for me, and I usually do not shop at Threads Too, but it was such a lovely store.  That really leaves the North Side empty, though.  I mean, down south we've got Threads, plus Michael's and Hobby Lobby.  Joanns and Hancock in the mall can barely be called "north" and anyway they aren't great for yarn.  I think the problem is that the lovely area around Studioville tries so hard to be artsy and cool, and it IS, but it just can't build the rep, so some really great stores have been in and back out of there because they just can't get the traffic.  I think maybe someone should consider Havelock for a north side LYS.  It's got the right vibe, and would probably be a nice, viable location.

I used to live in Lincoln for a number of years, but have moved to the Sandhills. Now I'm closer to Denver :-) but I definately miss Lincoln - especially the music stores (Homers downtown is closing though - sniff - sniff), fish bowls, the absence of country music playing on juke boxes, billions of garage sales and the amazing thrift stores.

My favorite was St. Theresa's on 36th and Randolph. I found soooo many amazing things there - for example a handmade quilted skirt which is probably to this day one of the better thrift store finds I've made, not to mention the wonderful prices and quirky atmosphere. If you haven't been there - definately check it out! They are open on Fridays until around 7:00 and Saturdays until around 3:00. It's a magical place.
