They've got fun fabrics, fun patterns, and lots of already crafted stuff by local people!  Very cool little shop...and relatively new!

hmm does anyone happen to know any crafty places near Stillwater? Aah, I used to live there before i moved, 2wo years ago, and we go back pretty much every winter and summer, and sometimes spring break as well, but every time I'm there it's like...no crafting for the entire stay because i really dont have many materials with me...Any suggestions?

There's a bunch of fun crafty places in Stillwater, however, like the rest of the town, you pay a *little* bit more there than you would anywhere else.

Bead Alley in the Brick Alley (very fun bead store, lots of good loose bead choices, crystal, and seed beads)

Rose Mille on Main Street (a newer store with shabby chic in the front and AMAZING millinery supplies and habadashery in the back. vintage and new ribbons, trimmings, beads, buttons, and unusual class offerings)

There's also a paper store in Brick Alley but when I was last there, it was sort of still new and she was still getting her stock in.  And all the antique stores Stillwater is known for have fun things that can be recycled or reused.  In the upstairs of the Staples Mill, I found some VERY cool old needle cases and needles, as well as vintage patterns, doilies, all sorts of good stuff.  You have to wade thru all the other weird stuff to find the treasures, but they are there!

Check out this map-

http://www.ci.stillwater.mn.us/downtowndirectory.pdf

And of course a few miles away are Maplewood, Woodbury, and White Bear Lake, all chock full of quilting stores, craft stores, and bead stores.

Good luck!

If you like cool thrift stores you have to check out Arc's Value Village.  Great retro clothes, handbags, shoes as well as jewelry and household stuff!!  There are 3 stores in the Twin Cities but the Richfield store is the best!

I used to live in Minneapolis/St. Paul.  I can't tell you how much I miss Axman.  They had everything.  I scored on chalk and charcoal there.  Enjoy it while you are there!

The Minnesota Center for Book Arts is great. It's here:
1011 Washington Ave. South, Suite 100, Minneapolis, MN 55415, which is right on Washington, kinda near Sawatdee and the Depot.
I recommend it, even just to look around!

Borealis Yarns in Saint Paul is great, I went there today for the first time.  The staff was very friendly and they had an impressive selection of yarn.  I was especially impressed with how much cotton and other vegan friendly yarns they had.  Plus they have a punch card program and that's always good!

I like Treadle Yard Goods at 1338 Grand Ave in St. Paul.  They have a lot of fun stuff like the retro reprint stuff as well as really nice silks and a super cute button selection.
There is also a knitting store in Chanhassen, I am not sure the address but it is south of highway 5 near the new Lakewinds co-op.  It is called Knit Wits and it seemed like they had a lot of nice yarns.

Oh OH OH!  Even though I no longer live there.  I can say I've been to a REALLY awesome craft store in downtown called "Crafty planet"

I got the BEST retro prints their for headwraps and some chocolate brown sweatshirt material for a pair of palazzo style sweatpants.

I still have not MADE them yet...but in theory it can be done now.

I just discovered a fantastic nursery in St. Paul. I love plants as much as I love crafts, and I think gardening is pretty crafty! I put together some containers for my back stoop this week, hurray for flowers! It's Linder's in St. Paul, 270 Larpenteur. It's great! I have been there 3 times in 2 days. Help!  Shocked

I went to another fabric/quilt shop recently and had to add it here.  It's Quilters Courtyard in Saint Paul and I love it!  It has a good mix of modern and traditional fabrics, books and patterns, and lots of other stuff for me to drool over.

Has anyone taken any knitting classes at any of the local yarn shops?  I think this fall/winter I really want to learn how to knit more than just a swatch.  I'm thinking about the beginner classes at The Yarnery but I'd appreciate any advice!

Hey Batgirl, thanks for the Patina recomendation.  I finally went there the other day and I love it!  I picked up some cute Halloween stuff and coveted much of the jewelry.  I definately need to go back and get some cute earings...or a necklace, or a bracelet....

Does "crafts direct" still exist. We had one in my hometown and then it turned into a Ben Franklin (swear words in my knitters head). I kinda assumed tha BF bought out CD. BUT, when the switch over happened NOTHING changed besides the sign on the door. So if youve ever been to a Ben Franklin, or a michaels...crafts direct will be nothing new.

I just moved away from Minneapolis (to DC for a year) and all this talk of the fabulousness that is the Twin Cities is making me so INCREDIBLY homesick.

I will second the nomination of Depth of Field... their discount loft is pretty cool.

I've driven by that Crafts Direct billboard many times as well and this thread reminded me to look it up.  The "Craft Mall" in Waite Park looks pretty much like a Michaels but a web search also found their outlet store in Minnetonka.

Any experiences with the outlet?  The prices online look decent.

I would really love to find a local resource for bath and body supplies like shea butter, cocoa butter, oils, flavors, etc.  Any ideas?

Wedge coop had a couple of things I hadn't seen elsewhere but I'd love to find an actual soap or candle supply shop.

Thanks!

Here's the website if you need a map http://www.craftsdirectoutlet.com/

In looking at their site, I realized that I've driven by it a number of times and always meant to go in.  If you're into needle crafts, they're supposed to have an amazing selection.
Can anyone guess what I'll be doing tomorrow instead of homework?!  Grin

Well, yesterday, instead of homework, I did indeed make a trip out to the outlet.  I guess my expectations were a little high, because I was disappointed.  The majority of things were christmas crafts/gifts.

They did have a good supply of scrapbooking supplies and jewelry findings, but the discount wasn't really spectacular.  I recommend waiting a bit, till the discounts increase, although you'll run the risk of things being picked over.

But, all their christmas wrap, bags, etc was 50% off.  I don't buy into those half off after christmas sales (really, where does one store that stuff all year), so it was nice to get that discount right before the holidays.

This is really more of a place to buy crafty gifts.  I've been driving by the gift shop co-op for ages now, waiting for it to open.  It's on 35th Ave E, right between Hiawatha and Minnehaha.

Even better, if you join the co-op, they'll sell your crafty stuff
