My mom desperately seeks a place to do ceramics!  I know there are a few paint-your-own pottery places that have plates and teapots and things, but she really misses the big stores from the late 80s where you can do your own greenware and then clean it and glaze it and all of that.  Those places used to have a huge selection of stuff, too, whereas it seems like the pottery places only have certain items.

What do you know, craftsters? =)

Your mom is in luck.  There is a wonderful ceramics place in Altoona, called "the ceramic place" (and is also a french way dry cleaning drop off site.)  I took classes from them for about 5 years.  June runs the studio and is very knowledgable and affordable. They are in the old part of Altoona, the "downtown" district, per se, and are on the main road into town.

FYI, they are generally closed for inventory from Christmas- New Years.

Most of the other places that used to run in DSM have closed over the years.

Thanks!!  She will be thrilled!  I know the ceramics stores aren't exactly en vogue anymore... glad to know there's still one out there.
