a supernice gal in maryland recently commissioned a painting from me. the deal basically went down like this: she gave me money and turned me loose. and here's what i came up with for her:

uuuug. if i didn't have a girlfriend, i'd totally hook up with spray paint.

that particular commission was $100. the painting is 16"x20" and i also included a few comic books. i can go smaller (and therefore cheaper), too. or BIGGER!  yeah! YEAH!

Funny, that's what they say about Nebraska, too.  And just to prove a point, it was 55 degrees and rainy today and tomorrow it's supposed to be sunny and 80.

They say that about North Carolina too. They say "You know you're in North Carolina when you run the heat on the way to work and the a/c on the way home."

How is it you can say this, and I don't even flinch at the complete lack of expected artist's modesty?  Super charming painting.  I found your website forever ago and liked it, then lost it so I'm really glad you posted.  The Needies need to come play in Iowa.  We love anti-folk  Wink

i have a sort of anti-modesty because i feel like a total chode sometimes about my stuff. my girlfriend is an AMAZING artist and sells her paintings for like, you know, upwards of a couple grand. and i'm like, "weeeee, baby, i sold a painting today. 60 bucks!!!" sigh...

Yeah, but friendly anti-modesty is what makes it special.  I've worked really hard to be able to say good things about my own work, mostly because in art school there were so many people who said good things about their work in a not friendly way.  I'm always nervous about sounding like they did.  (I seriously knew a guy who was copying da Vinci paintings so he could do them the 'right way'.  Come up with your own ideas if you're such a genius.)  Three cheers for your girlfriend, but three cheers for you, too.  Selling art is one on the hardest things I've ever done.
