aw thanks  Smiley
As for the hat pattern, I just sorta winged it. At first they turned out wonky with little bulges on top, sooo I thought I'd search for the proper way to increase to make a flat circle.
I begin with 4 or 5 chains, join to form a loop, then make 12 dc into the loop, and increase by 12 on every row. So, your second row would be "ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in every stitch", and your third row would be "chain 3, *2dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next st, repeat from *" and so on. For my hats I only increase to the 5th row, 6th or 7th for bigger hats, then just 1 dc in every st on the rest of the rows until it's the right length.
As for the earflaps I count 9 stitches from the middle of the back of the hat (where the hat was fastened off is the middle for me) and make them 12 stitches across in dc(i only ch 2 instead of 3 because it makes it tighter *less holes*) another 12 stitches in the 2nd row, 3rd row is where I decrease by dc 4 together on both sides, then decrease on every row after that by dc 2 together on both sides until there are only 2 stitches left. HoPe ThaT MaKeS SenSe  Tongue Roll Eyes and to finish everything off I make a border with 1 or 2 rows of sc.

Thanks so much! that made just fine sense!  Wink I will have to try this as soon as I get a chance. It might actually make good christmas gifts for friends and sounds fairly quick!! I'm a little behind on a few small things for people!

When the night has been to lonely, and the road has been to long, and you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong, just remember, in the winter, beneath the bitter snows, lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring, becomes the rose. <3
