I didn't see a KAL for this already, sorry if there is one.

I am pretty new to the world of socks, but I have to have these!
Care to join me?

I want to!  I am in the process of unraveling a sweater from Goodwill and want to make a hat for my dh for Christmas with it.  If it also works, I want to make these socks with it too.  But I gotta make the hat first.  It's part wool, part cotton, and part acrylic, so I'm not sure it will work.  I've only knitted one pair of socks in my life, I enjoyed it, but they were very basic.  This is a pattern I'd actually like to try something more complicated with.

I didn't see a thread either for this yet.  So, get started and keep this alive until I can start it.  Wink

I wish I could be unraveling right now, but my dh is watching a movie with the kids, so I gotta wait until he's in bed or gone.  Knitting a present is not as easy as I thought logistically...

I'm expecting sock yarn for x-mas, which is good cause I'm out and really can't afford more. I really want to knit these socks! I love Cookie's patterns. They're so awesome. I have another pair of socks planned too, so hopefully I get enough for at least two pairs.

I'm in.  I'm debating whether to use a solid or a variegated yarn for this...

me too.  i was thinking of using koigu, but i'm not entirely sure about it yet.  i work at a yarn store and i'm staring at it all the time thinking about all the colors they have.  they're beautiful.

any one else know what they're going to use yet?

Oooh. I have some Austerman Step sock yarn that would be perfect for this. I think I may join.

Well, I got Opal sock yarn for giftmas, self-striping, which i think would look funny in this pattern. But, I also got $80 in gift money (giftmas and my birthday) so some of that is going towards yarn for Monkey socks. Hooray for relatives who don't even try to guess what you want anymore  Smiley.

I CO today and got through the cuff and two lace pattern repeats (so about three inches).
I'm using Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock yarn in Vera, and oh my gosh, it's SOOOO pretty.  That's the best part about sock knitting, that gorgeous yarn!
I am liking the way this variegated yarn looks in the pattern, but a solid would also look very pretty and show off the stitch.

I really need to try Lorna's Laces someday. I'll have to order it online though they don't sell it here.

I cast on for mine on Wednesday and I just turned the heel this morning. I made 8 repeats of the lace pattern instead of 6 because I have very small feet and always end up with tons of leftovers anyways. I'm using Austermann Step and it's so incredibly soft. It has aloe vera and jojoba oil in it. I'll try to post pics soon.
