I was wondering if anyone uses biodegradable/environmentally friendly glue? And if anyone knows of any that is strong enough for journal making?

Thanks! Smiley

I make wheat paste.  It has been used for bookbinding throughout history, is very strong, and is easy to make.

I use whatever flour I have on hand, but if you want to get particular, use pastry or cake flour.  They have less gluten than regular wheat flour, and it is the gluten that might attract bugs.  Personally, I've not had a problem using all-purpose flour.

Mix well with a whisk:  1 tablespoon of flour to about 5 tablespoons of water (I think I use more water than this, but that's the recipe I got from here).  Microwave for 20 seconds and whisk.  Microwave again for 20 seconds and whisk.  Repeat until you reach the consistency you like (not too thick, not too thin).

You can also buy wheat paste powder for at some craft stores.
