Back in high school I took lots of art classes and learned all about the principles and elements of design, composition, etc.  Most of my classes were in painting, and they were all acrylic.  I've been getting into oils more now, well, exclusively now, because I am so in love with the colors and the blending and the vibrancy of oil paints.

However, I am having a hard time finding any instructional books that I like.  They are all filled with bad landscapes and cheesy still lifes.  PLEASE!  There HAVE to be some cool art books out there.  Something that will be really inspiring and educational.

Does anyone out there have any favorite art books to tell me about?

I hear lots of good things about "drawing with the right side of the brain". It has a lot of good, helpful excercises in it, unfortunately I have yet to have time to really sit down and try them out.

Unrelated note- your sn is great, I love that song.

Yes, that is a GREAT book!  I am also looking for books on painting, if anyone else has some titles to share.

I know it's off topic, but WHAT song?  The quote "There is more to life than increasing its speed" is by Mahatma Ghandi.

DUH!!!!!!!!

Thank you.  TMBG is my favorite band.  You're the first person on craftster to "get" that.

I'd second Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, also the TMBG reference.
Cheers!
