I had no idea what to do for my parents for a Hanukkah gift. I ordered the book Judaikitsch on a whim, and it was full of hilarious ideas. I saw the gefilte fish platter (pg 106), and had to make it, so I dragged my boyfriend to a paint-your-own pottery place. I picked out a plate, while he painted a psychedelic design on a picture frame for his mom. Here's the finished product:

I guess you kinda have to be Jewish to get it, but gefilte fish is kinda like a fish meatloaf often served at Jewish holiday dinners. So this is a serving platter for it. The Latin text is just imaginary, and the fish has a kippah (beanie) and pais (curls that little religious jewish kids often have).
I think the irony is very much in the Craftster spirit Smiley and I highly recommend the book. Some of the projects you probably would never make, but it's a nice alternative to all the Christmas craft stuff out there.

That is an awesome plate!  Grin I am going to have to order the book.

Thanks for the tip, and I am sure your parents will love the plate.
