this is for my dad for christmas, he's a collector of coke memoribilia

i unpicked a cheap tie to trace out the pattern

then i cut out the pieces and

1. stitched the joining seam making sure that the tie sat flush.

2. finished all edges so that the fabric wouldn't fray.

3. put the pattern paper back on the fabric and ironed along my folding lines.

4. i then folded my fabric and slipped the interfacing into the tie.

5. decorative stitched along all sides to hold the interfacing in place, and to add more 'oomf' to the article.

6. hand stitched the middle seam, you might see the stitching. just to hold the middle together so it sits right.

i'll post an action shot of dad after christmas with it.

OOH!  Nice idea!  I didn't have any idea of what to make for my FIL.  Something like this would work perfect.

Great Job!

great tie and thanks for the quick tute, but I'm faced with a dilema, I haven't a tie to disect. My brother hardly ever wears ties and my dad isn't a tie wearing kind of person either. Any ties that they do have are all 100% silk, imported from Japan, which means I can't even touch 'em. If you make another one could you possibly give the dimensions? It would be awesome. If you can't though, I understand. Great tie anyways.  Wink

If you want to make an extra fancy tie, look into seven fold ties
