I?m making http://www.simplicity.com/assets/4219/4219.jpg shirt for my dad for x-mas to wear with his kilt and I bought this brown broadcloth from walmart last week but I didn't buy enough so I ended up going back there today and they are all out! I asked the lady that was doing the cutting and she said that walmart isn't going to have a fabric section anymore. I have been to 3 stores looking for something so simple already. Ahhh I hate walmart now I'm going to have to do all the cutting out again just for 2 in!!!

There's already a thread on this topic. You can find it here:

Apparently it is only some Walmart's that are getting rid of their fabric sections, not all of them

Sorry I've been gone so long. Am trying to get back on the boards. Body's thrown me for a few loops these past months and am still learning to adjust. Thanks for your patience.

yeah, they issued a release earlier this year that said they were going to phase them out of their stores.  wal-mart has been having flat or down sales lately, and i doubt they do enough business in their fabric department to warrant continuing with the expense.  don't get me wrong, i've occassionally scored some deals off the $1/yd table, but i can hardly ever find anyone to help me w/ cutting or questions.

that being said, i'm definitely going to go stock up on notions & interfacing, since theirs is at least $1/yd cheaper than Big Chain Fabric Store.

Walmart's brand of broadcloth is Palencia, if you have the receipt the UPC should be on it.  If you can find another fabric store that carries Palencia you can get the same color.  You might try calling a couple of friends in other towns with Walmart stores and see if they can pick up the yardage you need and send it to you.

i will be sad to lose the $1.00-a-yard table, but think of the clearance sale!
