A note to socomfyhere, re using a silk tie:

I regularly machine wash any silk ties I get - and also silk blouses - instead of drycleaning them, with no problem. If they are washed in cold water.

I have found that it is mainly a dye loss problem being the reason silk items call for drycleaning instead of machine washing. And a cold machine wash keeps that to a minimum.

The stiffening inside the necktie sometimes goes a bit wonky, but that just takes some re-adjusting by hand and an ironing job.

Jane2--
thank you! I had been wondering about what happened to silk when it gets wet, that is good to know...maybe now I will try this w/ one of the cool old silk ties from Salvo.

Roll Eyes I love both tops! I think I will try to make the necktie top but first I have to sift through my hubby's tie collection for the best one.  Great tutorials!

Thank you for your inspirations!!
