you could coat it with varathane (not sure of spelling, but you can get it at a hardware store).  the silverware would not be dishwasher safe because the clay could chip, so it's best to handwash.  i did some like this for a goth swap (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=166803.0).  My partner (who sells her polymer creations) says that you can coat it, and bake it again.  she says it helps to strengthen the polymer.

I got the directions here:
http://www.bhg.com/bhg/story.jsp?storyid=/templatedata/bhg/story/data/Halloween_StaringSilverware_07112002.xml&catref=cat1050041

I couldnt find eyes like they used, so i made mine from polymer.

Thanks, smashergrl!  I have ll kinds of varathane and equivalents, so I'm set if i go ahead.  My connection is slow tonight, so I didn't get to see your goth ones yet.  Do you know what page of that post you're on?  The person I was thinking of making them for is not someone that might take special care to hand wash, so I may just sock the idea away for some one else.

- tiny 'in a box' gifts e.g. kiss in a box or snow in a box (for those of us in the southern hemisphere)

- origami: of any description
