So here we are.  The FedEx Lap Table (for laptop!)

Want to make your own?

You will need 3 Fedex LARGE boxes, 1 Fedex MEDIUM box, an utility knife, a ruler and packing tape.

1.  Assemble the MEDIUM box and 2 of the LARGE boxes.

2.  Cut about 7" of the end of one of the assembled LARGE boxes (Keep the larger half) and cut just the very edge off the other assembled large box (now you have two boxes of different sizes with one closed end and one open end.

3.  Take the medium box and slide it in to the smaller LARGE box (just to provide stability.  You can use the cast off box bits to make "shims" to make the fit tighter(reccommended).  Tape just at edge of large box so it holds medium box in place.

4.  Slide other half of large box over medium box until edges of large box meet and medium box is totally concealed. Tape large box edges together.

5.  To make the legs of your table, take the remaining large box assemble it and find the center.  Measure out an inch on either side of your center point.  Cut along one off center line on one side of the box and the other off center line on the other side of the box (lines will not be right above each other...thats the idea.  On the sides of the box cut a diagonal line that joins the off center cuts on the top and bottom of the box (each side).  In effect you are cutting the box in half but at an angle.

The above image is of the completed legs

6.  On the underside of your assembled tabletop cut a hole large enough to accomodate your leg (trace the angled side against the box) and insert legs (angling out).
\

Secure around with tape so legs don't shift.

Voila!!

Hey guys!  Just a quick note... let's not focus on the topic of Fedex or stealing/getting free boxes, keep the topic on the Lap Desk itself.

Thanks!

I love that!

I would definitely make this, but I'd cover it with contact paper and decorate it...

Sorry guys, but I am entirely serious when I say discuss the craft and not FedEx.  Off-topic posts have been deleted or edited.

Thanks again!

that's such a great Pee pee protector.  I just need some fedex boxes.

my computer gets real hot, & my bed is the only place in the second floor room that gets reception, so I always have to sit on the floor...

& it holds the laptop ok?  Like it won't buckle or anything?  how long have you been using it?

That's a good question!  How heavy is your laptop?

FedEx boxes are surprizingly sturdy and you put the medium box inside the two large for even more sturdyness.  There hasn't been any buckling at all.  My laptop is the HP dv1000 it weighs 5.26lbs.

No problemo!!!

Does your laptop get too hot for the box?

I have what looks like the same you have, and mine gets really warm.. I hope this isn't a potential fire hazard.  Shocked

No there is no problem.  Remember there are vents on the bottom of the laptop as long as the vents are not obstructed the computer is ok. Mine has little rubber pads on the bottom to keep it elevated. Because the surface of the box is hard and flat it's just fine.

I can't see it getting hot enough to set anything on fire  Smiley

Then you haven't had the extremely funny but yet extremely dangerous opportunity to see a laptop burst in flames. Just remember to turn your laptop off when you're away from it for too long

you are crazy-cool!
that's an amazing idea.
but what if you spilled something on it?
is there some kind of coating on the boxes that protects them?
or do you just keep liquids far away?

still, amazing job!
