Im not a Elephant OR Houndstooth fanatic. Quite frankly... I hate em both. However, when combined in one with a pretty flower embellishment... its lovely. I love it.

Oh man, I love your stuff! Your girls are so lucky! What's funny is that I just got that same book in the mail that I ordered on eBay a few weeks ago - just in time to make a pair of boy and girl elephants for the bf's mom for Christmas! We're -almost- done with them... however, they are not going to look even half as professional as your beautiful houndstooth one! Any tips on attaching the head? The method the book describes is a bit foreign to me, so I was wondering if anyone else did it that way or did it their own way.
Amazing job!

Well as far as attatching the head.... I just basically whip stitched around the head twice..... I was getting antsy, but when you pull the threads taught (afterwards) it brings the head and body closer together and makes the seam not appear as much of a hackjob you thought it would be.... but also I have a ribbon around the neck to hide the seam. You can't see in the pics but the ribbon is the same color as the hairbow.....errr...
.flower. Sorry if that was confusing...I am trying my best to explain without pics. Not a good tut giver!

That does help, thanks! I think I get what you mean. Right now we have a pink elephant and a blue elephant on the desk upstairs... a stuffed body and a stuffed head of each just sitting there waiting to be put together. I hope we're able to get to it this weekend. We've still got 2 weeks before we head to visit his family for the holidays, so we'll have to get them done sooner rather than later!
Thanks again for the advice

I myself have never quite understood wists... I just use it occasionally to "wist" photos of things I like so that I have a visual reference of things that I might want to try and make for myself in the future

I love her. So sweet. I went and bought that book before I even finished reading your post! Damn the internet. Oh well, it was only $3 for a nice cloth-covered library copy. I can't wait til it gets here! In the meantime, do you mind sharing how you made the cutesy flower?
