Confused.

I've only made about 50 ATCs, but I just noticed that I have a definate preference for certain kinds of designs.  Look at my flickr photoset of my cards (there are many missing):
http://www.flickr.com/photos/katxn/sets/72157594391325566/

I just noticed that I *really* like matted pictures.  Look how many little mats there are on those cards (see Elvis, Faith, Dummy)!  Also, I seem to really like the "big thing on top, little thing on bottom" layout (see those same 3 cards).

I need to work on getting out of that groove.  What's your groove?

I haven't really found my "ATC GROOVE" yet. I'm still hunting.

I'm a Primitive Artist by trade www.allaboutprim.com and my personality is what I call "punny".  I do alot of "play on words" like "Moon over My Mammy".  Sometimes folks  Roll Eyes and I understand, lol.

I think my groove will be when I find a way to incorporate prim into ATC's.

Is it sad that your set was the last bit of motivation I needed to finally join Flickr? Cheesy

I don't know if I have a groove, other than an addiction to insane colors...I do love my colors...

No more sad than the fact that I have no idea what Flickr is.  I keep seeing it mentioned here.

Off to do a search and get informed.

I have a swirly, snakey object groove...and a female face groove....and a floral groove.
I have told myself to get out of it.
But...then I decided I was going to just please myself.

I don't really have a groove.  Like with most everything, I'm all over the map with mine.  Your ATC's are amazing!

My groove is collaged cards. I'd like to branch out into painted cards.

On my own, the groove changes every three or four cards depending on what new materials or tools I'm into: moving out of a hole-punching period now, into what-can-I-do-with-Chinese-playing-cards, and what about sequins?, and especially making atcs that aren't representational miniatures composed of tiny images but rather parts of some much larger, obscured or abstract whole. On craftster there is a lot of representational work compared to some other sites I looked at or, well, compared to contemporary art in general.

But what is most fun is making atcs with others, which I've done with five or six other groups. We make up games in which we add on to each other's cards. Some examples:

- everyone gets only one or two materials to use and we add onto each others' cards
- everyone contributes a noun, an adjective, and a verb and then we shuffle these around, deal them out, and try to draw cards about "ancient chalk dances" or whatever winds up in our hand
- everyone gets a different New Testament quotation to try to represent using images from ads for bands and raves (this was a whole 'nother country for some of us who aren't Christians)
- together making collage landscapes for a tiny cut-out of Hello Kitty
- taking turns adding images to cards, each image to be made of no more than a 3/4" white dot, a 1/4" monochrome dot, and a black finetip marker -- scissors optional -- the goal being to make an image (e.g., fried egg, Death Star explodes) that you or the others on the card haven't made before, with minimal alteration to the dots.

With several people working on a card it feels like there's lots of room freed up for chance, new perspectives, and getting out of ruts. It's also interesting to adjust the games to the different ages and levels of familiarity with craft materials and different preferences for competitiveness, collaboration, independence, letting go of what is yours, and the like.

Ok, can you tell I'm a teacher? this is so teacher-like and long.

Hmm...I'm just poking around, still trying to find my groove, but right now it seems like I've been incorporating my love for crochet.  It's been fun figuring out how to make them all individual.

I guess if I have a 'groove', right now it's themed swaps.  I have joined several themed swaps at another forum.  It's a great way for me to experiment with lots of different medias.  I'm still trying to find my own personal style, I guess.

I've only made probably around 30 ATCs and I have yet to know what my groove is. I want to branch out into acrylic paintings (probably all abstract) on the cards sometime soon. I stick with paper mostly- very similar to making a scrapbook page or a greeting card, only waaay smaller.
