It's been snowing in Seattle lately, of all things. And I wanted to learn stranded knitting. Combine these and what do you get? A new knitted hat (or 3) and my own new pattern! Smiley Two hats for my new niece Madison and one for me!

The pattern is here and you can see more Flickr photos here.

I had a lot of fun working out the pattern and then seeing if it would work. I had never done Fair Isle so I really didn't know for sure, but it worked! And now I want to do lots more of this technique. It was so much fun because you could just watch the design grow, round by round.

It doesn't hurt that the hat is extra warm (because of the stranding). I needed that this week! Lows here were below 20 degrees F last night.

Very cute!  It's such a perfect christmas hat.... I love it.  You did a great job on the stranded knitting.

ps. I can't believe how cold it's been!! The last couple nights its gotten below freezing here in Sacramento.  Crazyness.

Mistake?  No... it's an Unexpected Design Element.  I put it there on purpose.  *ahem*

These hats are AWESOME! Ever since I learned how to knit I've wanted to attempt Fair Isle, and with this beginner's project, I think I shall Cheesy

I'll post pictures to show you if I do make one!

LOVE the hat!!  Thanks for sharing the pattern - if only I'd seen it a few days ago when I was housebound and itching to knit something new and warm to wear.  Can you believe the snow?  I'm glad we're back to rain  Smiley
