make yr own cake mold???

hey, everyone!
my boyfriend's ninteenth(!!!) birthday is on the thirtieth, and i want to make him a dinosaur cake, since we love them so much.  however, i've come up with a little problem.  i don't want to buy a cake mold; especially since i learned that they are easy for make on your own.  recently, for my friend's birthday, a girl made a puppy cake by using her own mold.  i'd ask the girl, but she is super scary and mean to me.  does anyone know how to make a one time use cake mold?  i think i heard her say that she made her's out of paper, but i can't quite remember.  any tips would be helpful!  thanks <3

Was the cake flat or contoured? You may be able to use cardboard to make a form. Just an idea, I haven't tried it. Paper burns at a higher temperature than the cake will bake at. Think of a cross between the look of a cookie cutter, but the height of a springform pan. Cut the strips of cardboard 2-3" wide (depending on the overall depth needed) and bend and crimp them into the shape you want. Use flour and water paste as glue to hold edges and to tack down to a cookie sheet. I don't know if you would need to seal the whole edge down or not. Lighly butter and flour mold like you would a cake pan. Something to experiment with, maybe.

i guess you could kind of say i'd be making a sort of box?

hey, i don't know much about making cakes but i do have this nifty little book that is full of nifty little cakes. they are all cut up and put back together shaped like animals or snowmen or whatever. i believe there was a dinosaur. in fact, i know it! if you are at a complete loss you can instant message me and i would be glad to scan the page in for you. the decorating job on the cake was fairly awful but if you think it would be of any help, let me know.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. avolian's cutting suggestion would work too.
