I made one of these totoro backpack clips for my daughter's anime club, and when the librarian saw them, she ordered 4 for her grand-daughters.  Here they are!  She asked that they all be a different color.

Here's the pattern!

Supplies:
For backpack clip, crochet thread and a size 2 steel crochet hook.
For a bigger doll, worsted weight yarn and a size G hook.
Two 8 mm  safety eyes
One 12 mm safety nose
White felt
Metal clip
Polyester stuffing

Make the belly first, so that you can position it before adding nose and eyes at step 17.
Belly
1.ch 2, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook
2.ch 1, turn, 2 sc in each sc
3.ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc across
4.ch 1, turn, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc across
5.ch 1, turn, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc across
6.ch 1, turn, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc across
7.ch 1, turn, sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc across, finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Eyes
Poke safety eyes into a square of felt.  Trim the felt in a circle around eyes, using the picture as a reference.

Body
1.ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook
2.(2 sc in each sc) around (12sc)
3.(sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (18 sc)
4.(sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (24 sc)
5.(sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (30 sc)
6-10. (sc in each sc) around (30 sc)
11. (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around (36 sc)
12-15. (sc in each sc) around (36 sc)
16. sc in each sc around, trc cluster in last st ( yo 2 times, insert hook in st, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo 2 times, insert hook in same st, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo 2 times, insert hook in same st,  pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull though all 4 loops left on hook.)  This is the tail.
17. sc in each sc around.  Position belly in front with pins, add nose and eyes now. (directions for eyes at end of pattern)
18. in back loops only, (sc in next 4 sc, dec over 2 sc) around (30 sc)
19. in both loops again, (sc in next 3 sc, dec over 2 sc) around (24 sc)
20. (sc in next 2 sc, dec over 2 sc) around (18 sc), start stuffing doll here.
21. (sc in next sc, dec over 2 sc) around (12 sc)
22. (dec over 2 sc) around,  (6 sc) sl st in last st, finish off, leaving a tail for closing up hole.

Ears
1.ch 2, 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook
2.(sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around
3.(sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around
4-7. sc in each sc around, sl st in last st, finish off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Sew belly to stuffed body, add ears.  Sew a clip to top of head.  Use puffy paint to add markings to belly if desired.

Hee hee... what you don't see in those two pictures is my cat, who couldn't resist the wire tree, hanging toys and spanish moss.  It took a while to get it just right! Thanks so much for the compliments!

Oh, those are so seriously cute!  I'm so envious of your talent ~ I don't suppose you'd be willing to share the pattern that you made up? My kids would be so excited to have a couple of cute little Totoros on our Christmas tree!
