I just finished the "Gathering Intentions" sweater from "Inspired cable knits" by Fiona Ellis. It's going to be a Christmas present for my sister in law.
I found the pattern was actually really fun and easy to work with, I thought I'd have more trouble but it never really caused me any greif.
I substituted the wool for something more within my buget, and that didn't really give me any hassle either.
Anyway, here's some pretty pictures.

mooncalf I compleatly recommend the book, I'm already planning to do another pattern from it. I'll be supprised if i don't make at leas 50% of the patterns.

Knit_Dork, I used Red Heart. Honestly, my sister in law has an 11 month old and really needed something that could take a washing or two, and i find that a)Red Heart stands up to the test of time and b)doesn't require special treatment. That and her favorite color is gunmetal blue, and I found some supersaver balls in the right color.

The whole sweater took less than two full super saver balls so it cost less than 15$ to make. I ran out of the first super saver ball halfway through the second sleeve. I made the smallest size as it happens to be my sister in law's size, and the pattern has a shocking amount of ease which is nice too.
