loooooonnnngggggg time lurker and crafter, first time poster.

on the first day of my film class last year our prof passed around a spool of 35mm film from the toronto film festival, so we could see how long 5 minutes of film is.  We were all told to cut off and keep pieces of it.  After much debate, I decided to make a belt out of my piece.

I covered it in this vinyl stuff I bought in mexico, and sewed along the perforations down the side.  I bent a bangle bracelet to act as the closure.

It kind of tore over time...but it was fun to wear for a while.

**also...if anyone has any ideas for a better closure (other than the ugly bent bangle one I have going on...)  I was thinking of using an old super-8 spool, but I thought that would look too film school nerd.

That's so neat! I'd like to make one, but finding that much film is going to be a problem.  Grin

Thanks for the comment guys!!!
as for finding film, I'd check ebay, local movie theatres, film festivals...
(a film can only be used a certain number of times before it gets scratched and grainy, so who knows what famous players/cineplex does with their "spent" films!
happy hunting.

"It kind of tore over time...but it was fun to wear for a while. "

There's gotta be a way to make it more durable.  Maybe decoupage it onto a vinyl belt?

Ooh. So good! I'm also brainstorming ways it could become more durable.. hm... (and thinking of asking the indie theatre for some of their old film! yay Wink )

I feel like decoupaging wouldn't work so well with film.  It's kind of brittle slippery surface.
hmm :/
