when a pattern says, for example, "dc in each dc across..." does it mean the same thing as "dc in each st across..."?

or do they mean different things, such as crocheting in a different part of the stitch?

First off, asking questions is SMART, not dumb Smiley

Dc in each dc across is pretty much the same as dc in each stitch across. Dc in each dc just means you are doublecrocheting in each stitch of the row before--and those stitches in the row before just happen to be doublecrochets, as well !

Yes..it means that as long as the previous stitches are double crochet...and generally, when a pattern reads this way they are.
But every so often oddball instructions come along.

And yes...asking questions is VERY smart. Playing and asking are my two primary ways of learning.

I asked this same question when I first started to crochet and I got the same great answers too and I was always told that it never hurts to ask a question even if it's the same one over and over again. That's how we learn right? As a matter of fact I think I did ask this ? more then once on here come to think of it.

There will always be people who say mean words  because you are different, and sometimes their minds cannot be changed. There are many more people who do not judge others based on how they look or where they are from. THOSE are the people whose WORDS truly matter.

Thanks everyone! And thanks for the encouragement - I'm sure I'll be asking more questions as I try harder patterns Smiley

Take care!
