my must-haves:

promo stuffs: business cards, fliers, postcards, freebies
display things: of course!
bags for purchases
inventory list
about $200 in change
money apron (personal preference)
plastic drop sheets: for outdoor shows in case the weather suddenly turns foul
nail clippers: for emergency hangnail removal
extra tablecloths: for shade!
clamps: to keep your table cloths in place if it gets windy
sunscreen & lip balm
allergy pills: because you never know what's going to be in the air that day, and you don't want to be out there with a runny nose all day!
free candy: for the kids
extra tags
receipt paper
mailing list sign-up sheet
duct tape: you never know when you'll need it!
digital camera: so i can make filmloops on my site
trash bag
bug spray

and last but not least:

a cheery disposition and good attitude!

oh - and music! i bought a boombox purse just to take to shows so that everyone can listen to my ipod out there. i prefer to keep it under the table, pointed up, so that everyone hears the music. it drew people nearer too, because they were trying to find the music source! http://www.mosmyownspace.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=groove-master&Category_Code=music

Wow!  This is so helpful!  I'm doing my first fair next month and some of these things are so obvious, but I never thought of them.  Duh!  Everyone keeps saying, "... because you never know," so should I bring condoms, too?   Shocked

Good Lord! I don't think I take that much with me when I travel! That said I think somethings missing, A stash of personal money (apart from your business cash box) so that if you choose to buy something you don't mess up your end of the day math!

I'm doing my first show Saturday and I LOVE the idea of a rolling cart that you can just leave packed with your stuff. Excellent!

i have a lovely canvas bag (with my buisness name screenprinted on it) that i keep all sorts of these useful items in.  That way it's always ready to go.  but the most useful thing ive found is old wooden clothespins!  they can be used to secure table cloths and flyers against wind, can hang your items from your tent, can secure price tags to items, and you neve know what else you can use them for!  i keep loads of them with me (and all over my house!)
