"Hello to all my fellow Georgians,

Vern posted info about his secret Atlanta location buying furniture, but have you ever been to his favorite fabric emporium? He mentioned the name at the Atlanta home show, and my interest was peaked! The store is called "Southeast Yarns," and it is in Lithia Springs, the same town I teach in, only two miles down the road.

The bargains are truly unbelievable! After hearing about it, my mom and I went. We each wanted to upholster a bench we had bought. She chose a gorgeous tapestry fabric. You have to ask for prices, and we quickly found that our $20.00 per yard estimate was way off! The gorgeous fabric was actually only $4.00 a yard. We liked it so much that we went back the next day and bought enough to reupholster her dining room chairs. We are now hopelessly addicted. We are just waiting for the day when we will bump into our hero Vern.

Vern, if you read this, just know that you have an open invitation to lunch at Sweetwater Elementary School! I'll even buy your lunch, if I'm not over my charge limit. Maybe you could even find something to do to my boring classroom.

divasteph: I'm willing to attempt to teach you to knit if you'd like. I managed to show a friend of mine enough of the basics that she ran off with a pair of my needles & ball of bulky yarn to make a scarf.

anyone know of any crafting supplies stores in the area other than the art supply stores (flax, pearl) and the big chains - michaels, ac moore, etc?

Art Store (dunwoody - CLOSED)
Wal-mart (winward - alpharetta)
Home Depot (winward-alpharetta and sandy springs)
that's about it - I wish i knew others....

Did a search for AC Moore...the closest location is in Columbus. From the pic's it's your typical chain craft store, although it looks bigger/has larger selection than Michael's. I don't know how it would compare to say Hobby Lobby, which I drive past on a regular basis waiting for it to open in the Startime Entertainment complex in Roswell.

Oh, I also do a lot of shopping at Dick Blick in Roswell. Usually I go from the yarn store to the art store since they're so close. I don't know of any "small" craft or art stores, just the chains mentioned. Oh, and there's Utrecht downtown (on Peachtree St, I think).

yah - melissa - me too - i have tried calling that hobby lobby and no one answers then i try to call others and they say they dont have a phone at that one - no one seems to know when it will open???
