Even though it's only September, I'm trying to get started on holiday/winter birthday knitting. I'm on a bit of a budget, with time as well as money, so I'm trying to think of small things to knit for people, but the only ideas I can think of so far are things like flower pins and wristbands. Also my girlfriends are easy enough to think of things for, but I'm stumped about boy things. Any suggestions? Links would be amazing. Thanks Cheesy

(also if it helps, I'm 16 and most of the people I'm trying to think of things for are between 14-18)

What about cell phone holders?
They are small and useful.

How about hats?  They can be cheap and quick.

There is a new book out that you could probably get at your local library called Weekend Knits by Melanie Falick. She has a great pattern for chenille washclothes that are in the shape of a flower, you could knit those and then wrap them with a little bar of soap (handmade or not!). I was thinking of doing that for some friends this year. It looks like an easy project and chenille yarn by Lion is pretty inexpensive and could be a great yarn to use (though I have not tried it personally!)

guys always suck to buy for. I'm trying to think back to what they'd want when i was 16....you could try a cell phone or cigarrette pack cozy (maybe knit on it An X'd eyed happy face or "smoking kills" or the name of their favourite band/sport team). Or like someone else said a hat, maybe with something like the above knitted on.) how about hacky sacks?

good luck. i'm sure you'll come up with some great stuff

When I was 16 and in HS... the boys were always stealing my lighter because they had lost theirs (and I always had one because girls have purses). Maybe a lighter keeper to clip to their belt loops so they will always have one at hand (and maybe do dreaming2's idea of cigarette pack cozies that match).

You can always try a stash pouch or something... same lines as the lighter cozy/keeper except its a little pouch to put whatever in and they can attach it to their keys or belt loops. Sort of like a knitted version of those tin stash boxes you can buy at Spencers without obviously being a stash box- and not being clanky.

dreaming2's idea for the hacky sack is good too, I don't know too many guys that can put one of those down- even if they can't play the actual game, they'll absentmindedly toss it from hand to hand while they're thinking.

2/18/12 - I no longer have the directions for wrapped pens, I lost them several years ago. To obtain them for yourself, do like I did, contact DMC threads directly and ask for them.

No... Grin Grin Grin Grin
Actually its holding the baby and that little skin colored part is the baby's hand holding a bottle. You're not the first to ask though... maybe I should change it.  Tongue

The more and more I looked at it- the more I couldn't get past it- so I had to change it Smiley

mm guys are a little hard to knit stuff for, but duct tape wallets and stenciled shirts are always a nice and cheap solution..
