I've got a slightly different gifting problem from tamagochi's posted at "Manly knitting gifts".    I WISH my boyfriend was of the britprof sweatervest type, but instead he's a Dolce&Gabbana-wearing fiend.  Yes, more fashionable than me, I can assure you.  It's a new boyfriend, and I'm still getting used to that idea.

I want to knit him a scarf for christmas, though.  I'm thinking to splurge on some cashmere, and knit something grey and neutral, but that you might still see on a runway in Milan perhaps.  Cables are out.  Moss stitch is too rugged-looking, i think.  Has anybody seen a pattern lately that fits that description?  Lurking fashionistas, I beg your advice!

I saw a man's scarf in a photo of one of the London Fashion Week shows (I think) that was basically a giant, grey, double-ended sock. It had proper heels and everything. Would he like that, or would it be too quirky? If I can fnd a pic, I'll post it.

i like the exchequered scarf on knitty.com.  very mod and you could do it in muted colors.  it's double knit, so it's reversible!
