I wasn't quite sure which board to place this on.  I was just wondering if anyone had any advanced braids for a kumihimo.  I'll post a pic of the one I'm working on when it's done.  I'm also working on a tutorial.

I'm bumping this up b/c there doesn't seem to be a good place around here for crafts of the braidy-knotty sort.  (Friendship bracelets!  Does anyone besides me remember these?)

So, anyone else who has uncontrollable urges to take random long bits of things and wrap and/or tie them up with other random long bits of things, join us!

Oh! I'm a knot nut! I've done some Chinese decorative knotting, macrame, rosaries, and nautical knots...the super-fancy Japanese braids are something I haven't tried yet, but here are some web resources:
http://www.gflower.org/kongo.htm
http://www.fibreartsonline.com/fac/kumihimo/

I can't imagine there are more craftster types doing the braidy-knotty stuff...If I ever find my digital camera, I'll post some of my nautical & rosary stuff.

Tatting!  I forgot tatting!   Shocked

There's a whole host of fun knot-related things to do.  Let's start a trend!

Actually, thanks for starting this.  I just recently stumbled onto kumihimo at a crafting fair and was instantly smitten.  I've been perusing the web and good kumihimo sites are few and far between it would seem (most of the info is basic history and for retail purposes).  I just got a Hamanaka disc off of eBay and I can't wait to give it a go.  Please post pics as you're able!  Grin

I just got something I had to tell everyone about.  It's a Mauridi [sic?] for braiding Gimp.  Same concept as rope braiding, but I got it at Walmart.  They have seven patterns for braids including flat, square, and rectangle; it also has the standard round braid.  I think I only paid like like $5.  I'll have a rope braided up (hopefully) by tomarrow, at worst, I'll post a pic of my work.  That way we can get this thread started.

That sounds cool - are you going to try it with non-gimp as well? I can't wait to see your pics!
