well-don't know if you're still interested but:

someone else was trying to suggest a type of larger sequin...the pailettes. Thats a good type-they have the hole at the top instead of the middle so that they have some movement. Theses would be really good for a scale effect on cloth or something other than your skin.

You could cut up small pieces of iridescent feathers and layer them in a scale/shingle kind of pattern in small areas, like on something you could wear on your forehead. Maybe even a crochet cap that you layer this way with the feathers?
