OK, I got to thinking and I was thinking that most of us have a lot to cart around.  Knitting, books, schoolwork, groceries, baby paraphanaila (wipes, binkies, etc.) , dead bodies, crocheting, warm clothing, bathing suits... the list goes on and on!  So, I was thinking, why not have a SuperTote swap?  What is a SuperTote, you ask?  A SuperTote is a big-ass bag that's gorgeous and has enough room/pockets/snaps/handles/anything to carry what you need.  Anyone want to?

This sounds like fun, but I'm not a "super sewer."  I've made reversable mini totes, regular sized totes, and a messanger bag for myself(my laptop George needed a safe home).  I've never done appliques, zippers, you know fancy stuff...  Just basic sewing...  I wouldn't want someone to be dissapointed with my Plain SuperTote...

i would totally be all over this. i think the beauty of it is that regardless of your sewing skills, pockets are pretty easy to put on. i wouldn't care if it had zippers or buttons or bells or whistles. just nice big, deep pockets!

Flaps, velcro, snaps, zippers... anything would be great on a SUPERTOTE!  Some people might even want open topped SuperTotes (I'm thinking of trademarking that, hehe!)

Um, probably sometime in the New Year, as I'm super busy before Christmas, and I don't want people to be busy during the holidays.  Maybe a week after Hannukah?  Around January 7?

I would give a long time for crafting (in case there was some knitting then felting action) and I need to fix my sewing machine!  This'll be fun!

Also, baggy paraphanalia can be included.  Zippy bags, makeup cases, glasses cases, knitting needle rolls, whatever you need!!

Can we hold off until after the holidays?   Huh  It's only another two weeks or so...  I'm just so damn busy, but I'd love to do this swap!!!  I'm not a very experienced bag maker, but I've been sucessful with the three different one's I've tried...  But, I must admit, I have a zipper phobia...

What do you guys think of also making some stuff to stick in the bag.  This would require a large time commitment, I am thinking at least a month and a half of crafting time, does that seem to long?

I think you're right on with the time frame.. I know it'd take me ages to make a "super duper tote"  and if I had to fill it, or put goodies in, ya.. that would take me longer too.

I just joined another swap, but seeing as this hasnt started yet, I might be able to do both.  I've been thinking lately that I want some eco-friendly grocery bags/totes, but I rarely make stuff for myself.

A tote for totes what a brilliant idea. I need to make some grocery totes so bad, I am so sick to death of the plastic bags, I try to recycle them but I swear they breed in the dark bin I keep them in and before I know it I have zillions of them.

I'm in. I am just wondering does the tote have to been sewn? I also crochet and have a great idea in my head. But I also have a few ideas to sew as well. Smiley
