It will block if you are using a high percentage of natural fibre. What's your fibre content? To reassure yourself, you could block what you have now without casting off: either on the needle if a circ, or on some waste cotton.

It's 100% alpaca.  I thought it would block, but since I've never worked with alpaca before and it looks like such a mess now, it has me a little worried.  I might try blocking it when I get home.

Yep natural fibre so it'll block but yes I do suggest a thorough block if only to get a good idea of the finished size. If you knit a 3-foot scarf and love it you will not be happy when blocking makes it 5 feet long! Check out Eunny's post on blocking lace: I think it's called Block Me, Amadeus?

I've finished my shawl! Well... my mum's shawl  Tongue

I did the most retarded thing when I was grafting the edging. I worked with the wrong sides facing...out. Hah. I ended up with a seam on the right side of the fabric, and a pretty knit row on the WS. Bleh. I did a little improvising and a made a false seam over the top, using mattress stitch. Crisis averted  Grin

Now off to block, and I have to hide it until Christmas! I'll get a pic up ASAP.

Specs
Yarn: KnitPicks' Alpaca Cloud in Smoke, 1 1/2 skeins
Needles: Knit Picks Options, size 4
Time: 2 months off and on
Mods: I cut the pattern repeats widthwise down to 3, and the lengthwise repeats to 28. Even so, the shawl measured 5 feet in length, and a little over 20 inches wide after blocking- perfect for my petite mum! In fact, this shawl is actually a few inches taller than she is   Cheesy

And heres another, less nature-ful picture for dexterity:

And I almost forgot the close-up!
