hehe, i am such a music geek, i have tons of cds, cassettes and records that i love making mixes out of!   Smiley

another good thing to do would be to send your partner links to myspace and purevolume pages where they can listen to/ legally download artists that you recomend.

Just real porn and "real" toys. Things you'd need an ID to purchase.

Makes perfect sense to me. I thought that some of the swaps I was seeing for a while there where not quite right. Especially the one with CD's and stuff huge legal issue, but then its obvious ya cant send booze or porn stuff either. lol I guess it's not obvious to everyone though- and so its really good you are stopping it before something bad happens that could tarnish Craftsters great image. Id hate to see that happen cause of someone sending a swap package full of booze, dirty pics, and burned CD of Marvin Gaye with Let's Get it On & Sexual Healing - Geeze imagine the possible outcome of that. hee hee.
Thanks for looking out for us Leah!

I am absolutely pissed about the mixed cds.
Never heard a peep about mixed tapes but mixed cds......oooohh!
I would like to withdraw from my first swap.
I no longer have any interest in participating in any.
I can't put energy into it after reading all this.
I'm not too happy with the bias censorship on Craftster.
I can't post a pot related item I've crafted,
but you can post a silk screen that is simulating oral sex?
between lesbians at that!
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=117642.0
Or a skirt made out of porn?
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=112415.0
I don't understand?
As long as you don't mail it to someone under Craftster's supervision?
Leah, you compared Weed to Heroin (far from it)
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=71764.0
Your main reason was that it's illegal (for now)
but you also said that there are impressionable youngsters on here. Do they not see the threads I listed above?
Or are those threads less "impressionable"?
I don't want to fight about this
I understand this is for the "good" of Craftster
but like I said, it seems bias.
I will continue to view everyone's great crafting
but I haven't any desire to interact with the craft nazis.

Okay, this was the first thing I read when I got up this morning, and after some thinking I've got to say it:  GET OVER IT!  I understand people being disappointed.  I understand people asking a million questions so that they are clear on what the rules are.  But, regardless of what anyone was told as a child, LIFE IS NOT FAIR.  There have to be rules in any type of forum, and if someone does not like the rules, they can opt out.  And to compare rules on craftster to the reign of terror that the Nazis conducted is dispicable.  No one told you that you had to go kill a puppy or kitten to join Craftster!  No one told you that you had to burn books that encourage thinking.  YOU CAN'T SEND BURNED CDS!!!  There are bigger disappointments in this world than that--my son's father is in Iraq for the second time fighting a war, my husband never knew his father because he left his mother when she was pregnant, my ex-husband won't be home to see his baby be born this month.  THOSE are disappointments.  Not being able to send a mixed CD? GET OVER IT.

Ok someone apparently woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning  Huh ....exxageration don'cha think?  All Jessilyn was saying she thought it unfair that you can post up porno yet not weed.  I'm sure Jessilyn has bigger problems also about the mixed CDs.  Craftster is where you come to hang and relax and express yourself creatively and she was just expressing what she feels about maybe feeling her creativity being limited.  And about the nazis, please I know you've heard "soup nazi" or "doughnut nazi".  I don't think Jessilyn meant to call anyone a Nazi like the real ones from way back when.  Or maybe she has had the fortunate luck to not HAVE to face anything serious and this for her is big cause she feels limited.  I mean I can go off on things that YOU feel are serious issues but I won't cause they are what YOU feel are serious.  Everyone has their own issues, no one is in ANY position to compare their issues to other's issues and say that the other person has little issues compared to theirs.

Jessilyn, I didn't know about the weed thing and maybe you're right.  I always thought there would be some sort of warning in the topic title.  For ex. "Rated X", "Adults Only", etc.  But maybe they meant things not to craft things you'd use to take drugs because I know there's an adorable cat toy with catnip inside that's in the shape of the MJ leaf Smiley .  So you kinda want to see in that way too Cool .

Okay.... here is my 2 cents as damaging as it may be... I agree with Disney fan. Jessilyn is not being forced to be a part of craftster and if she doesn't like the rules then don't be here. A forum without rules wouldn't be a forum worth participating in. I totally think that going off about how Craftster is censoring is totally inappropriate and I share similar sentiments with others "Get over it." There are many rules in life, whether they are made by our parents, the government, or whomever else. The thing is we deal with it because we know if we don't there will be consequences. Think of it this way..... If you speed (this is an American example as I am American) excessively you will get a huge fine and have to pay mega bucks and possibly have your license revoked and be charged with reckless driving and lets just pray that whilst rearing your head at the law you didn't kill somebody (because that would add more charges) point is we don't speed b/c we know there are consequences. I think obsessing over censorship is a trivial thing and if this is something that needs to be done to protect Craftster then I am all for it. I have come to love and cherish this community. They are more "uncensored" than other forums and people aren't as easily offended here as they are in other forums. I don't see why we can't just chill out, realize yes this is the times that we live in and get over it. My brother in law just came back from Iraq, so I truly understand Disney fan getting so upset. Even if Jessilyn has been sheltered and only has problems with censorship (which is doubtful) no doubt she has seen the news. Iraq is not the only war and soldiers are not the only casualties. In this day and time we should pause to think about all the awful things that go on and be thankful that we are quite removed from all that. And as for the Nazi comment I don't think disneyfan took it that way, but that's just my interpretation. Yes that was an awful period in history. And truly saddening and that right there is worse than censorship. See? There are many things out there that haven't directly caused harm to us, but may have trickled down through our own family history. Just get over it and be glad that it is something as simple as limiting a few things to keep us from getting into legal trouble. Jessilyn, maybe you could look into creating a completely seperate forum that doesn't care about the members legality issues? And that does mixed CD swaps.?

The problem with saying "if pot is out, porn should be out too" is that it is hard to draw the line between art and porn sometimes, and on a site that is this heavily artistic, a lot of deference needs to be made as to the artist's intention.

From the linked post where Leah was talking about drug stuff not being allowed, it seems like you could use drug imagery in a limited way, such as a marijuana leaf print or images or needles or whatnot, in an artistic fashion that makes a statement about drug use without necessarily promoting it or stating that the artist uses the subtance him or herself. That post specifically had to do with a roach clip, which is drug paraphenalia, and clearly "relates directly to participating in an illegal activity". That was a long time ago, and I haven't read the whole thread, but I feel certain I've seen the use of pot leaf imagery and such around here before. I may be wrong about that, and it also may vary with moderator enforcement.

This board is heavily american, and due to our confusing media and political situation, a lot of us have trouble interpreting the messages we get as to "this is art," "this is wrong," "this is obscene," and "this is deadly." See the controversy over a children's book about two male penguins who "adopt" an egg and raise the chick together. There was some outrage and calls for banning a perfectly innnocent children's book that never mentions sex, because in a lot of people's minds anything having to do with homosexual love is automatically pushed a lot farther towards the "obscene" end of the spectrum, when compared with the same content dealing with heterosexual couples. (Did I mention I'm not amused by "Jessilyn"'s "between lesbians at that!" comment?)

However,

None of this has a damned bit of anything to do with mix CD's. Promoting copyright violation could very well get the site in trouble. Throwing an illiterate temper tantrum about it is extremely inappropriate, especially where you slam other people's artwork and pepper it with a little homophobia for extra punch. Good on Leah and the mod team for making the best of a difficult situation here.
