I think the menstrual care packages are fine since it's porn (as an age restricted product) that they are concerned about.

Does this mean that "adult-only" swaps will not be possible?

To be safe we shouldn't allow them because we can't verify peoples' ages.

This vague statement has fostered speculation in this thread about the kind of things that will and will not be allowed in swap packages.

If you mean something besides the three rules in the OP that specifically address items that violate a law of the United States, then please clarify. There are a great many things in the art world in general and on this site in particular that are mature in theme without crossing the line into illegality.

Most of the items in the current "adults only" swap are quite tame. Almost all of them resemble the kind of thing that minors can purchase at Spencer Gifts, a store I perused in suburban malls before I had a driver's license. A few use artistic nudes, a few use betty paige images, and a few use contemporary pornography. The OP rules would seem to exclude the last but not all of the rest. I see no reason why the entire swap should be denied a second round when it is a relatively simple rule to follow.

(I anticipate an argument along the lines of "we shouldn't have swap items that parents wouldn't want children to receive, because we can't verify ages." I don't buy it. For one thing, the "restricted to over 18?" field is an established part of the swap application, is it being removed now? Furthermore, protecting people from the consequences of laws they don't have the education to appreciate is one thing, but if parents are not paying enough attention to notice their children are giving out their addresses to strangers over the internet and receiving packages, what right do they have to complain that the package contains homemade underwear?)

Adding on to onehtl1ama's question, yes, if you are in another swap where the signup period has closed (ie you have been crafting for awhile and have made a mix CD with case and everything as part of the package) is it okay to include that in the package? (seeing as the CD swaps going on right now, signups closed, are okay to sendout)

The cd thing is stupid. But I understand no one wants to get in trouble so I will deal with it.

Just to get it out there-- I'm not saying I agree with the fact that burning mixed CDs and giving them to someone is illegal. I think it's stupid that it's illegal. But it is illegal and I don't want anyone or myself to get in trouble.

Nah, I completley understand, Leah. Craftster is a BIG forum and we don't want to cross certain lines that could get rid of swapping all together, like, if someone sends alchol and the forum gets in trouble or something.

Sorry. I interpreted "adult-only" question as someone asking if it's ok to have a swap where you need to be over 18 to consume the products that are going to be sent.

If you buy something at Spencers that anyone any age can buy, it's OK to send it. There's plenty of risque imagery that you can work into art and craft that doesn't fall under the category pornography which requires you to be 18 to purchase. No one is inspecting your packages anyway. We just don't want a "XXX Video Swap"

The thing that you have to understand is that Craftster has so many members that *anything* can and will come up. We've had people post about whether or not they can send alcohol and someone even tried to start an "illegal subtances" swap.

It seems completely fair in my mind to ask that people not send things that could get themselves or me (as the site owner) in trouble. There are an infinite number of things you can still send.

I guess my only thing about the cd is that when you buy songs from Itunes, you're allowed to burn/share them on 5 computers.. so I wouldn't think it would be illegal to make mixed cd's with these songs burned on them. Or when I made mixed cd's of local bands, most of the time you can get the same songs off the band's wesbsite for free. but I do understand where the new rule is coming from and I will do my best to abide by them.. although it really will be hard for me to kick my mixed cd addiction Sad
