I needed a gift for my MIL for her birthday which was two days ago.  I decided to make her a nice warm blanket to snuggle under when she watches tv.  I decided to go with a snowflake theme - originally I meant to try to machine embroider some simple snowflakes on the white fleece in blue thread, but then I realized that wasn't going to happen without some kind of stabilizer, so I went for an applique using the blue backing fabric and zigzag stick on my sewing machine.

The back is the same blue as the snowflakes and border- the border is just the back fabric folded over and zigzag stitched.  Took me two days - maybe 8 hours? Including all the failed attempts at figuring out how to get snowflakes on there. Smiley

Hopefully she'll like it!

Your applique is so perfect, I'm so jealous! That looks fantastic, and way professional.

And the great thing about blankets is that the recipient feels warm and cuddly not just physically from the blanket, but also emotionally, knowing the love that went into the work.

I love that.
