Ths was made for my daughters birthday.  It was a big hit with her and the other girls at the party.  They all really liked marshmallows!

The cake idea comes from the 2005 Australian Womans Weekly cake book and was pretty simple to put together on the day.  You just need a ton of tiny marshmallows, a few larger ones, some liquorice ropes and some patience!  I used a plain victoria sponge cake and pink icing. With kids I've found they like it best if the cake not too rich.

I bought 2 bags of mini ones that always come in white and pink mixed.  They are the kind you float on hot chocolate or use in baking.  Only really needed one bag but I wanted more of the pink.

This is a wonderful cake, takes lots of pictures and be sure it's in the kid's scrapbook/photoalbum to be admired for years to come!

My mum made wonderful cakes when I was a kid and I'm glad I have photos to look back on them!

How beautiful!

Hehehehehehe... Is it bad that I actually want to ask someone to bake me a cake like this for my next birthday?  I can't help but giggle every time I look at the photo.

OOO.... I live in New Zealand.  I had no idea pink marshmallows were not common elsewhere! Any brand/bag of big or small marshmallows here is almost always 50/50 pink and white.  There is one kind that has tiny yellow ones as well but that seems a bit wrong.....
You need to have pink AND white so you can have arguments as to which colour tastes best  Grin

They taste the same as the white.  I did have some raspberry flavoured ones once.  YUM.
