Have you heard of a glass paint that frosts it?
«
on:
November 05, 2006 02:09:46 PM »
I'm asking this for a friend. She said that she's seen someone who had some kind of a clear paint that you put on glass. You paint it on and the glass frosts over. She said that its not etching creme, so I don't know what it could be.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help!

I don't know much about painting glass, but what about that spray paint that they sell around Christmas to make your windows look frosty?
I'm not sure if it somes off easily, but it's worth a try.

I've seen it at Michael's, but I really prefer to use etching gel, since the paint can chip or scratch off. It's called Armour Etch.

You can always dissolve a ton of epsom salt in warm-ish water, let it cool down and "paint" it on windows. It will crystallize on the windows and makes a beautiful frost (looks like actual ice frost) that washes off easily with windex. And my friend puts a thin-thinned out coat of school glue (ie Elmer's) over it to make it last longer...she sometimes tints it slightly with food coloring. Has to be really really dry for the glue or it will just smear off.

I think the Pebeo brand of glass paint -- called Vitera -- has a frost. Dick Blick Art Materials carries the line...

you're welcome! I've used both paint and etching and have found the etching to be more durable. I had forgotten about the epsom salt thing someone mentioned earliet, that works really well for temporary stuff.
