Anyone who has or has been around a two year old knows that they are full of energy and opinions of their own!  So...I decided to make my son this Max costume from Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are."  The book's first line is:  "The night Max wore his wolf suit, and made mischief of one kind and another, his mother called him WILD THING!"  It suits my lovable son to a "T"!

I modified a Simplicity pattern for a dinosaur costume.  The jumpsuit and hood are white fleece, the black tail is faux fur.  I improvised the ears (used a cut-up water jug to make them stiff because I had no interfacing) and used fun foam for the whiskers.  Unfortunately, my son only wore the hood for a few minutes because he hates stuff on his head.

I felt like I really got all the details of the costume right, but sadly, everyone kept calling him a cat.  *sigh*

that is adorable! and using a cut up milk jug for stiffening is so, so crafty..I love it when people come up with ingenious solutions to problems..bravo on the costume and the thought process.......and I am totally impressed you got him to keep it on long enough to get some pictures.

That is fantastic! Where the Wild Things Are is my 3 year old's favorite book. Smiley

My son was a bat for halloween with wings, and the big bat ears and everything and still everyone kept saying, "Oh what a cute kitty."  Roll Eyes

Great execution and he's really a dead ringer for Max. Smiley

It's a pity people thought he was a cat...

People who thought he was a cat obviously don't love the book like *I* do--I recognized it even BEFORE you told me! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the book---and your son is SUPER CUTE! Smiley
Also, the costume is amazing. The idea is really clever too. Smiley

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful feedback!

No, that is not my garden (I WISH!) it's this really cool place in my town--it's a garden just for kids.  Lots of what you see there is recycled (ie: the bowling balls and car wheel in the second pic).  Everything is kid size--you have to bend down to get in because even the entrance is small!  They have a maze, playground, pirate ship, and lots of beautiful stuff.  They have a huge halloween party every year.  My son looooves it!

Amberbrown, it is Simplicity 4002.  I modified it quite a bit, but the jumpsuit part is pretty basic.  You could do alot with it.
