I joined a hats/mittens swap, so I was experimenting with hat making for the first time this morning. This is actually my mock-up, because I didn't do the lining part, and I used a thin flannel print instead of the recommended fleece. I used See & Sew pattern B4332.

Anyway I'm really pleased with how it came out, I'd definitely suggest the pattern. The only thing is the sizing is a little big. I was supposed to be a medium, but it is looser than I'd like.

I would love to try some hats!!  Do you use interfacing for them?  Thanks for the tip on the pattern being too big--it will save the rest of us from making the same mistake!!

The hat is cute anyway--the fabric is really fun!

Where did you get that fabric?  I love Dots!  The hat looks great too -- I've been itching to make a new hat, maybe I'll try that pattern.  I have a massive cranium, so maybe the sizing will work out ok for me.   Grin

That's cute fabric! A cute hat.  Doing a mock up first is a good idea!

Thank you Shocked) I didn't use interfacing, it looks pretty firm when it's on with the flannel, so I'm sure with the double sided fleece like the pattern recommends it'll be even more so. The only thing the pattern asks for is the fleece and lining.

I bought it at Joann fabrics about 6 months ago.  Smiley

How cute is that!
I would always be in a good mood with a cheerful hat like that!

Just so you know, fleece is much thicker than flannel and if you had lined it like the instructions said to, the hat would be far thicker and would have fit better.

Hmm.. I know fleece is thicker, but the hat is a good 3 inches larger than my head. Well when I make the next one, I'll use the same size as I did for this one, and update about how they fit.

Hey I like this! And this is only the mock up?! WHOA I want to see the better version too then! Do you think maybe a small piece of elastic might help hold the hat on a bit tighter? All I can think of without having to attempt and resize the whole thing. Good job.
