hello!  i started teaching myself to sew about two months ago too keep me busy while my hubby was on his last stretch of a 15-month deployment.  anywho, i'm posting pictures of my first handbag.  i'm a little hesitant cuz it's not as nice looking as the ones i've seen on here, but it's not too shabby for being the second thing i've ever sewn in my life.  it's just a basic square bottom bag in a fun mermaid print.  thanks to the jordy purse tutorial for helping me figure it out how to put it together!  the coordinating fabric for the inside lining that i chose didn't match up as well as it appeared online, but it's still cute.  i like how it looks like a bag full of seashells on the inside : )  it closes w/ a magnetic clasp.

Not too shabby is right! When I was learning to sew, there was no way I'd attempt anything without a pattern and explicit instructions, so I have to say that I'm impressed.

Love the fabric you chose.

I've never been lost, but I will admit to being confused for several weeks.

Amphitrite (or should I call you Sea Goddess)
I love your bag. You did a wonderful job on it and no one would guess it is only your second attempt at sewing. Pat yourself on the bag.
I especially love the fabric. Where did you get it?
Best of luck to you during your hubby's deployment - it must be a very tough time for you. Keep sewing - it is a great pastime. I know, my oldest son is in Iraq.
And thank your hubby for his service to our country.
