I wanted to make a cute "installation" in my baby's nursery (I'm due Oct 1st and if I don't do it now, it won't be made anytime soon!) The $1 store had a gazillion 5x7 naked wood frames...I had to buy 12!
A llittle crackle finish, some decorative paper and decorative painting...

AFTER:

I really feel like the colors are NOT entirely well-represented. I had a helluva time getting the right size of images to upload and my adjusting the pics seemed to make them a bit off.

so cute.  are you making it a little poem?  I think that would be very cute....  and "bed" would be such a perfect b rhyme...

Thanks sweet Craftsters!  I'm working on a few more today. Hopefully I can post them tonight.  Smiley

kategirl---there's no poem b/c the alphabet is a pre-printed faux retro giftpaper that i am using...but that would've been a good idea!

That turned out really nice and very colorful. I like it!

Did you do an undercoat on your crackle or is the color the wood frame color?

Thank you!  Grin
The frame is a naked wood. I painted the undercoat in a limey green muted down with some brown and paled down with a bit of white.  I could see how it would look a little woody.  Sit tight, b/c I'm finishing some other color combos tonight!  I look forward to share them with you  Grin

Hey, the new ones turned out really cute, too. I like that it's a poem. Makes you want to go on and do the whole alphabet, LOL!!!

I like the colors. When I do things with my pic editing, it skews the colors some, too. Nevertheless, we can see them and you did great. Wonderful night's work!!

Forgot to congratulate you on your new child.

congrats on the new baby!
just wanted to let you know I love the vintage/retro inspired nursery.
Ebay has a bunch of those vintage baby hangers for auction right now.  You know the cute baby blue pink and yellow plastic ones from the 50's, they might look cute on the wall if you hung like a little vintage doll dress from one above the crib or something?
just an idea... Smiley

Thanks DrewsUSAgirl!
With a newborn, my memory stinks (!), but I'm pretty sure the paper is from a great store in Chicago called PaperBoy.

I'd love to show pics of the nursery, but the art hasn't even made it to the walls yet! I'll try to post some when I put the finishing touches in it!

Thanks for asking about the little one...here's a pic...

Those are SO CUTE!  Gosh, people pay a lot for alphabet cards that aren't even framed.

Do you have any advice on painting polka dots?  Right now I use a stencil that is really made for drawing and the edges never come out exactly smooth.  What kind of brush do you use?

Thanks for the compliments, Kari! (on the bitty boxes, too!)  Cheesy
The easiest polka dots, in my opinion, are made by dipping the handle tip of a paint brush into paint. Dip once,"practice" once on a paper towel, and then you are good for several nice dots before reloading!  You can get tiny to fat dots, depending on the size of your paint brush handle tip!
