I asked my oldest boy what he'd like to dress up as for Halloween this year, and he decided a monster was the thing to be.  So he gave me a list of characteristics he wanted (fuzzy, blue, green horns, four eyes, scary teeth), and I drew my interpretation.  He gave it the okay, and I got to work!

Here's the pattern I used for a base (basic jumpsuit + modified panda headpiece):

And here's how I bastardized it!

Eldest monster (workin' the camera):

Middle child monster:

Baby monster (he's laying on the horns, but he has them too):

And the lot of 'em (baby's horns are hidden again--I promise they're there):

Monsterrific!  (groan)

....that's about all I have to say on the matter. The costumes look very warm...and cuddly. How did you do the eyes?

What makes these costumes so great isn't their construction (though they look marvelously made)...it's the boys' reaction to them.  They clearly loved being monsters!  Growls, snarls, and all! Roll Eyes

Those are great, and that's awesome that you were able to make them something that they customized.  What a fun mom! Great job!

You get the awesome mom of the year award!  Grin I, too, love the baby's confused and somewhat apprehensive look. Like, "Should I be freaking out? Crying? Laughing?"

Thanks!

The eyes are made from craft felt.  I cut circles in varying sizes and ran a long stitch around the edge.  I pulled the thread to gather the felt around a wad of batting, and secured it with a few stitches.  Then I added a half-circle of the fuzzy blue stuff, to create an eyelid and cover the gathered bit.  (My plan was to attach fake eyelashes to that, but that got shot down--not scary enough.)  I bunched the eyes together in an aesthetically pleasing arrangement and sewed them together, then sewed the bunch onto the head.  Finally, I added Sharpie pupils.  Done like dinner!

The highlight of my evening was putting the baby in the Jolly Jumper where he could bounce in view of the kids at the door.  Bouncy monster fun!

Wow I wish my mom was that crafty when I was little, those costumes are wonderful, and doing it three times, dedication...granted they are your kids. Haha, great mental image of bouncing baby monster.
