I made this for Kittykill for her wedding this coming weekend!  Smiley  Their theme is Day of the Dead/Voodoo/Tiki - so, those typical white lace-covered books just wouldn't do justice!

Please don't think, "Wow.  You made her a dead tree.  How sweet!" 'cause it gets better, I swear!  Tongue

Instructions for the guests...

Acid free, archival ink... yay.

So I'm not responsible for burning her wedding down. Wink  They flicker just like flames...tee hee.

Hopefully once everyone has left their name or note to her & hubby, the whole tree will be full of leaves of love & wisdom.  Kiss  I hope they like it!

Thanks much!  She said she would send pictures of the "after" after the wedding... I'm excited to see it in action!  Hehe.

I love the little owl - he can't help but be cute, even by himself I guess.  Cheesy

Thanks so much!  We're getting married next year, so I'm trying to think of another idea for our wedding, too.

Thanks!  Grin  I think I'm going to make something similar, but use it as a jewelry holder.  I've seen some but they were quite expensive & we can't have that.  Wink

Ha!!  I can only imagine the look on his face when you said that!  Crazy crafting blurts like that are priceless. Cheesy  You two (I think that's him!) are very cute in your avatar, too.  Smiley

Oh yeah, so are so many themes the idea could be taylored for!  I was going to make little sugar skulls from poly clay & maybe a pinata to hang in the tree because her theme is Day of the Dead, but time got away from me.

haha yah he was a little freaked out. but he's used to my crazy ideas. one time i told him that i HAD to go to europe because there was this crafting fair i heard about. and he was like..but, you dont have monet to go to europe. and i was like I DONT CARE I HAVE TO GO. i received another one of his strange looks. lol.

and thanks for the compliment Smiley

yah sugar skulls would have been really cool!...and a little pinata...that would have been too cute. but i have a slight obsession with leaves so...i'm quite fond of what you came up with. haha.

ooooh, I love it!  I love trees, and that one is great!  If I would have had a tree like that, I would have actually invited people to my wedding!  Pretty!

Sweets, I see you have a date picked out!  I still haven't started putting your tree together yet....but it is at the top of my pile!

Can I also have the details as to how you made it, and what type of paper you used for the leaves to get that realistic crincle/texture?  Or do I need to PM you? Very classy idea.  I am such a thief Sad

Of course!  Well, I will provide you with what I know, which isn't very technical. Cheesy

The wire is just from a spool of heavier black hardware wire I had on-hand in the garage.  I'm not sure the gauge, but it's thick enough to stand on its own, but thin enough for me to bend with my paws (rather than pliers).  I totally made it up as I went... cutting wire, twisting it together and basically just attempting to make it much as much like a tree as I could.

The leaves are from the scrapbooking paper section of Hobby Lobby or paper I had in my stash.  They we were cut from those big, square background pieces.  The crinkle-looking parts of the leaves are fibers (I think that's what they're called) in the paper.

I drew out one leaf and then used it as a pattern to cut out the rest.  I used a pack of earring hooks as the hangers for the leaves.

Feel free to ask more questions.  I don't mind a bit! Smiley
