My niece is initiating her Lil' Sis this Friday and couldn't find a traditional pin box that she liked, so she called me and I came up with this...

I used a basic pottery slab construction and TLS tinted with Pearl Ex powders for the stripes. Inside is a little brown felt pincushion for the pin to rest on. For last minute I think it came out really cute!

Thanks for looking Cheesy!

Oh, that's wonderful!  ... the little pincushion inside for the pin is a great idea too.

Is that a glass or plastic "gem" as the purple=y finial, or something else?

Lylyfai:

That is a lovely pin box! I love the color combo you used and the handle goes great. I know that your niece's Lil' Sis will love that, handmade is always the best to give, especially for an initiation. It's just that much more special.

The pink is a Swarovski crystal with a brown (forget the actual Swarovski color names) rondelle under it. Had one of each left over from a bracelet and after baking I popped it on a head pin for a knob.

Cheesy I can't wait til Friday!

I love the box, but I can't help but wonder--just how big is it?

LOL I have no idea!?!? I have already sent it out... My niece said the pin was the size of a nickel...which fit in it nicely...couldn't have been 2 inches wide and deep and a little taller maybe 2.5 inches? I need to remember to add something for scale....thanks for the reminder Cheesy

For a sorority initiation right? Do you remember which sorority? I think that's a great idea! I break my old pin out every so often for alumnae things and it would be nice if I had a designated place to keep for the months...um years....between!

You can see a picture of all of the sorority's pins here:
