I'm going to repeat this. Apologies to those who've heard me say it a thousand times before in this thread  Grin
It is not against the rules to send and not receive anything in return.
It is just against the rules to receive and not send anything in return.

Excellent point Bobolink. Perhaps that needs to be the next new hot diy t-shirt. Wink

I'm very happy that the birthday swap was settled, I had missed a lot of months but wants to take a look and do some crafting. In a way the rules addition was sort of what I did in my head when chosing someone in an unconditional style swap. I looked for those that I saw had crafted for others, are very kind around the forum, or those who were flaked on (poor souls I always want to hug them and give them a basket of crafted goodness).

I don't think this has been mentioned yet... What I really loved about the Unconditional Swaps (besides the unconditional part and the variety of crafting outlets) was the fact that you were limited to three wishes. To narrow down all the crafty things in the world that you'd like someone to make you to just three items, to me, seems like an enormous effort, and by doing so, you'd be asking for and getting something that you really, really wanted. That way, when I chose someone to craft for, I felt like it was more meaningful somehow, like they'd super-appreciate my craft because it was something that they've been forever wanting, so we both win! Does that make sense?

I know that the Ongoing Wish Swaps are similar, and I like getting involved in them, but with having so many wishes, it seems like people still craft for the easiest and fastest ones. :/ I guess there's no real way to pressure people into being a bit more thoughtful, but those were my musings anyhow. Oh and as a disclaimer, I'm not trying to generalize and say that everyone does this because I know that's not true, but there are indeed many who do.

this is just an idea... for the birthday swap couldn't the recipient just send a crafted thank you note. that way the rules wouldn't be broken Smiley

Fadeawaydreams those kind of formatting issues are totally at the discretion of the organizer.
So an idea for a new swap that you could start that is well within the guidelines would be: "my three top craft choices"
You post three things you really want and someone chooses them etc.. The only thing that would be different is that you'd have to craft for someone to post your list.

I've thought about that too, Bobolink, and I think it's a great idea, but I'm not sure how many others would get in on it. The Unconditional Swap was so darn popular; I'm afraid my new take on it would be rather unsuccessful. Besides that, I fear that I could not see it through because of stupid time commitments. How about we all quit school and our jobs and craft ALL the time? Ready, GO! Wink

Bobolink , that is a great idea. I really like it!

fadeawaydream , I would definitely bookmark and follow a thread like that, looking for someone I can craft for. It might be worth a try, to see what happens. Smiley

I readily give up housework in the name of crafting, BTW.  Wink

But since the unconditionals are now gone- that crowd will be looking for a new swap!
Maybe there should be a "not so unconditional" swap that is exactly the same except for the one rule change. I bet most of the people who joined before would still join.
