Batgirl was a librarian

As librarians, my coworkers and I like to base our Halloween costumes on storybook characters.  This year I was Mary Poppins!  We had a costume parade today at the library and everyone seemed excited to see Mary in all her supercalifragilisticexpialidocious glory.  The kids at the library seem very well behaved in her presence.

My inspiration was the original Disney film and the recent stage revivals.

I had to make the hat after searches proved useless.  I used super heavyweight charcoal felt (they didnt have black), doubled, with a sturdy interfacing between.  Then I hot glued some flower and berries.

My cat, Frances, "helped" by holding down the excess felt.

The umbrella came from the Sears mens department after an exhaustive search at Target, Wal-mart, Macys, and Kohls.   The bird-head umbrella was just impossible to find so I settled for this classic black one.

The ruffled shirt, bowtie, and gloves came from a vintage apparel store.

I already owned the shoes, skirt, and red pea coat.

Now with real children!

Candy for everyone!

Yay librarians!  After college you'll have to go to grad. school, though.  You need to get your MS or MLS in Library Science and then take part in the secret initiation ceremony.

OK maybe not so much the last part.  Smiley

Definitely an awesome costume!  Mary Poppins happens to be one of my fave characters and movies!  I so wanna "snap and the job is done!"

As to being a librarian...do you think they would let me *live* at the library?  Not so sure I wanna help everyone, but pretty sure I could just *live* there.  Books--one of my addictions.  Guess I'll settle for a degree in accounting and just visit the library when I get a chance.  My days off are taken!  If you need me, I'll be at the library!

Wow! I love it!! Its different from your usual, really creative, i especially love the hat!

I've always been a reader, and I'd like to work in a library.. but i'm a bit of a giggler and the library enviornment might be too quiet for me. I work in my school library and hopefully i might get a job in the county library for the summer. I'd say it would be easy enough to get a job in the library if you have experieince.
