Here's a beret I made for my Nana for her birthday, she's a halloween baby!  Anyway, you can only see it from the top on this pic, but there's garter stitch around the opening of the hat.  I also crocheted a snowflake and sewed it to the hat, I think it looks nice, and she likes it. Smiley

oh, wow - i love it! i definitely agree that the snowflake adds that certain something special. i've actually been cruising the net for beret patterns lately cuz i bought this gorgeous handspun/hand dyed yarn that would be perfect for a chapeau of that sort. would you mind sharing the pattern that you used please?
