That coat looks so warm, D.I.Winer!  I can't decide what I love the best, the huge buttons, the awesome collar, or the screenprinted bear!

Love the coat.  Where did you find the quilted lining?

Thanks for all the kind words, girls!

The lining is just quilted lining that the fabric shop sells - it's usually in the lining section. I used it for a coat I made last year too. It costs a little more but it is *seriously* worth it - it really, really does keep you very nice & warm.

mi mantita - it's my sewing room! my superamazinglyawesome roommate & his boyfriend repainted & redcorated it as a surprise christmas gift last year - they did it while I was at work. Those little pictures hanging above the hooks behind me are tiny Ramones paintings they made for me! And the dress on the wall is the built by wendy blous pattern lengthened into a dress.

All I have to do on my first coat is sew on the buttons, and stitch the bottom of the lining in. I am starting to get really busy with Christmas projects, so it may take a while before I cna get to it.
I know these pictures are really crappy, but it is hard to take a picture of a half finished coat. This is mostly just to show the fabric (black and white) Excuse the terribleness. The lighting was being a pain  Roll Eyes

I also went to hancock's the other day and all of the plaid flannel was $1 a yard! I couldn't pass it up, so I bought this to make a zip-up hooded lumberjack style coat.

It is actually a grey and pink check! I love it so.
I do have one question about a coat like that: How would I go about making it slightly puffy? I don't want it to be huge and marshmallowy-looking, but I want it to be warm... would fusible fleece work?

OK, here's the pic of my jacket.  (sorry just realized that I've got it on crooked at the hem - it actually is sewn probably, I've just not straightened it up when I put it on!)

I haven't gotten around to buttons or buttonholes yet. It's lined, but I'll have to take a picture of that later on. It's a wool/cotton blend and is a beige/light brown colour with dark brown spots.

I ordered some boucle tweed and am anxiously waiting for it to arrive. I plan on making a topper coat with Simplicity Threads 4403. First clothing project with an honest to goodness store bought pattern. Wish me luck.

D.I. Winer-- I LOVE that collar!

raining dreams - I've never seen fusible fleece - but it sounds intriguing! And it also sounds like it would work. Or, you could get some of the quilted lining stuff I used for my coat - it's not *too* puffy, but it sure is warm. That plaid flannel looks so cute!

and flowerchild, your coat looks good! I'm excited to see it with buttons.

ooooooooo we're all gonna be so toasty this winter!
