There are lots of mixedmedia and collage artists on Craftster, as well as writers and artists themselves. The number of people creating ATCs is growing (WE NEED AN ATC BOARD!!!) and as well as making them, lots of people keep a journal or diary - including myself.

This week I started an art journal. For me, this has been incredibly beneficial to my artistic self as it means that I can combine two things which I love dearly - writing and painting - into one book. It's such fun having half an hour to yourself every evening writing about your day whilst incorporating collage, sketches, or even just sticking pieces of memorabilia from your day down.

I thought that it would be good to have a thread where people could post pictures from their art journal, say once a week (when exactly is up to you) so that we can all look at the images and draw inspiration for our own journals. I'll start in the post below, meanwhile the following thread has many helpful links, and some nice images too: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=64664.0

Lots of nice pictures (including some of my own): http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=art%20journals&w=all

Gorgeous stuff involving fabric: http://fabricartjournals.blogspot.com/

I'm sure that there are some LiveJournal.com communities but I can't seem to remember their names.

Anyway, I'll post a week's worth of my own entries, and tell me what you think of this idea and whether you'd be willing to participate and contribute.

I week's worth of art journalling. As you can see, I mainly use words and drawings. I don't spend hours on my entries, unlike some. I use Flickr for my photos, so I'm posting links.

I like this idea. I'm new to art journals myself. I still tend to use words more than illustrations. 1001 journals is a great place to look at art journals.

If I can't be my own, I'd feel better dead.

Sounds like fun! I'll be posting pics of my senior show soon, and it is almost all altered books. I'll post a link here when I get that done.

Once I get caught up on ATCs and have more than two seconds to do art for myself, I'll definitely be getting back to my art journal...so I'll be inflicting my art on you all as soon as I can...

Thanks for the link - I've just joined the site. Smiley

I use both words and pictures in my entries, some are entirely pictorial and some blocks of writing with doodled borders. I'll also post some newer entries over the weekend. Glad there's interest!
