Try looking at scrapbooking supplies - they seem to have that kind of stuff. As for finishing a hole, maybe zig zagging around the edges? Hopefully, the cutout has been stabilized so adding zig zag stitches shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks for that! I saw your reply earlier this morning, and spent the day looking at scrapbooking sites - but I have to report back that I didn't find anything, sadly.  As with the "bulk purchase" site, they had the shapes, but the shapes were just cast-shapes with a round hole in the center.

I have to say I'm not quite sure what you mean about "stabilizing the hole"!

I did find something that might work as an alternative, called "reverse applique", which I've never heard of before.  I'm thinking I could do something like this technique, and use bias tape to "finish" the hole and create an even border.  Not exactly what i was looking for, but I think it might work Smiley

Thanks so much for your suggestion, I do appreciate it, and it led me to some other possibilities Smiley

To stablize a hole would be to have something in between the main fabric & the lining. Something that would help strengthen the hole so it's not floppy. The grommet would hold up better. I've heard of reverse applique before, but right now I can't remember what it is. It is a quilting process I believe. I'm glad I helped you some. Good luck in finding your grommets.

ohhh... okay.  yes.  There would be interfacing (and quite a bit of it too Smiley )

Reverse applique is when, instead of laying the fabric design on top and sewing it on, you cut out a hole so the lining shows through.  Which is *kind of* what I'm going for, but not exactly.  Teh difference is that generally, you cut the design out of the lining fabric and put it behind the outer fabric, and then sew the two together.  In my case, I don't want to do that. I just want a hole! LOL

Thanks again for you help! Smiley

That's good that you have interfacing - your work will hold up better. Thanks for reminding me what reverse applique is - I now have a pic in my mind of what you want to do, good luck w/that & show off some pics when you're done.

I feel like I've looked everywhere, and without much luck. Every handbag supply vendor seems to have the same old latches. I'm looking for more elaborate and beautiful latches for my cigar box purses. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks! Smiley

My favorite place for these is a place called UMX Handbag supplies. They're only online, but they have everything. I think the website is www.umei.com
I hope this helps~!

I have made two of these city backpacks.
Here's one...

The drawstring is tied on this one because I couldn't find one of these in any store near me.

I'm trying to find a place online or in an actual store where I can buy these.  I made another one for a Christmas gift and I harvested one of these off of a rain coat I hardly ever wear.  Can anyone tell me what the name of this is so I can search online for it, or tell me where you've been able to purchase one???  Your help would be greatly appreciated!!

My first instinct is to call it a toggle, but I didn't find any under that name.  I did find this:  http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/strap_stopper.html

and this:  https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200365147_200365147

I think the first link's more useful, as it has other names for it.  Neither clotilde nor joann's website had toggles listed, if that shortens your search any.

Try athletic stores... they use them to keep shoe laces tied.
I bought some from a local store, but not sure they sell online.  I just called and described what I was looking for.
Not sure this helps!
